The Global Innovation Index 2021 of WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) has named Switzerland as the most innovative country in the world for the 11th time in a row. Considering that our planet is home to almost 200 countries, that is quite an achievement!

A short intro to WIPO: its mission is to measure national innovation ecosystems, as innovation is one of the most important drivers for economic progress and competitiveness. Therefore, many governments (both developed and developing countries) put innovation at the forefront of their growth strategies.
The goal of the Innovation Index is to find metrics and methods that can provide the most complete picture of innovation in society. The index assesses the innovation performance of individual countries on the basis of approximately 80 indicators, including spending on development and research, know-how and technology, patent activities and the complexity of export products.

But why does Switzerland rank first? Switzerland is above average in converting investments in innovation into high-quality output. It is characterized by the innovativeness of its business sector, with a high share of knowledge-intensive employment and high R&D spending supported by the private sector (as declared by the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property). Even in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, investments in innovative developments have not regressed. On the contrary, the WIPO report reports an increase.

We have been able to observe the appeal of Switzerland particularly in the IT/SAP labor market. Since the IT / SAP industry is strongly characterized by new technologies, continuous education and innovation as it is, Switzerland brings an extra fascination as the most innovative country in the world. Swiss nationals are supported by many international specialists on their "mission to innovation". Indeed, it is precisely this innovative environment that is a reason for the majority of foreign specialists to move to Switzerland.
